The DNA Sequencing Facility (DSF) provides a DNA sequencing service for all labs in IMCB using Applied Biosystems 3730xl instrumentation and BigDye terminator chemistry. It is also engaged in genome sequencing projects in collaboration with others. For more information on using the service, please contact enquiries@bsf.a-star.edu.sg or Jasmine at fylim@imcb.a-star.edu.sg.
In collaboration with Glaxo-Wellcome (UK), DSF sequenced the genome of Helicobactor pylori, a bacterium linked to stomach ulcer and gastric cancer. Other sequencing projects include the malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum, different strains of equatorial microbes and ESTs from Mycobacterium to identify genes responsible for dormancy of the tuberculosis bacilli. More recently, the facility was involved in the Finishing Phase of the Fugu Genome Project (in collaboration with the Molecular Genetics Laboratory in IMCB and other members of the International Fugu genome consortium) as well as the pilot project for sequencing the genome of the Elephant Shark (also in collaboration with the Molecular Genetics Lab).
