From 1 October, 2010, Professor Neal Copeland will be stepping down as Executive Director of IMCB. Prof. Copeland joined IMCB in September, 2006 with his wife and co-Principal investigator, Nancy Jenkins, before assuming the role of Executive Director in November, 2007. After dedicating the past three years to the management and administration of IMCB, this move will offer Prof. Copeland the chance to focus on his research, as he continues to lead the Cancer Genetics Laboratory at IMCB with Prof. Jenkins.
During his term as the Executive Director, Prof. Copeland has made significant contributions to IMCB, strengthening IMCB’s basic science and reaffirming the institute’s relevance both locally and internationally. He consolidated IMCB’s research focus in areas such as cancer, cell biology, developmental biology and inflammatory diseases. Prof. Copeland also shaped the organisation of IMCB, streamlining IMCB research laboratories into four main divisions to encourage collaboration and the sharing of resources. He introduced career progression plans for the scientists, improved the mentorship of junior researchers, and recruited outstanding junior and senior level scientists.
IMCB wishes to thank Prof. Copeland for his strong leadership over the past three years and for his considerable contributions to IMCB.
Prof. Stephen Cohen, currently Deputy Director (Strategic Planning) at IMCB, will serve as the acting Executive Director of IMCB until the new Executive Director is appointed by A*STAR.
