X-periment! 2009, Aug 14-16

“X-periment! 2009” was held from Aug 14 – 16 at Marina Square Central Atrium, organized by the Singapore Science Centre as part of Singapore’s month-long celebration of science. This exhibition was geared up to both educate and tantalize audiences, with some of the more explosive and awe-inspiring experiments by TV’s extreme scientist from the U.K., Dr. Bunhead: the Fire Tornado, Flaming Trump Tube and Glo-stick Rollercoaster, as well as over 18 booths managed by some of Singapore’s most prestigious tertiary institutes. The booths delivered hands-on experience for children and their families to explore the various elements of science. Twelve staff from IMCB’s Zebrafish labs (Zebrafish Facility, PWI, VK, JYJ, SR, and DNA Sequencing Facility) participated in the exhibition, demonstrating to both old and young alike the novelties and intricacies of zebrafish biology, sporting the motto “Ask why?” on their T-shirts.

“Being involved in X-periment! 2009 has been a truly meaningful and enjoyable experience. Now into our 5th year of participation, the zebrafish exhibit has never failed to attract an inquisitive crowd and it’s definitely heartening to see so much interest and enthusiasm from the general public. All in all, it was a rewarding experience and well worth the effort. I would strongly encourage all IMCBeans to participate in such events in the future. I hereby thank everyone involved for making this event such a success.” Ix Wee.

IMCB also offers our thanks to the staff who gave up their time to give back to the Singapore community, and particularly thanks Ix Wee for organizing the IMCB zebrafish exhibit .
