A*STAR ETPL Awards $1.99 Million Grant to Dr. Lian-Hui Zhang’s Team

Dr. Lian-Hui Zhang and his research team have been selected by Exploit Technologies Pte Ltd (ETPL - A member of A*STAR) for Flagship funding of $1.99 million for 3 years for their work on "Quorum Sensing Technology – Development of Anti-Bacterials and Anti-Fungals for Fast Moving Consumer Goods Application". The Flagship Awarding Ceremony was held in IMCB on 31st July, 2009.

This award was granted to support Dr. Zhang’s research team as they explore novel strategies to control microbial biofilm formation and infection by targeting quorum sensing and cell-cell signaling mechanisms. The team seeks to identify and evaluate a range of bioactive molecules as potential health care agents to prevent biofilm formation and microbial infections. Several healthcare and pharmaceutical companies have expressed strong interest in the quorum sensing and quorum quenching technologies from Dr. Zhang’s team. This award will be part of an R&D collaboration proposed by an international company.

IMCB congratulates Dr. Zhang on this prestigious award and commends the group’s continued efforts in the development of this technology and its anticipated health care benefits.
