Research Scientist, NNI
At IMCB - Junior Research Fellow, 1994-1995
I was at IMCB from 1994-1995, as a Junior Research Fellow in Dr Thomas Leung's lab in the Glaxo-IMCB group. I joined IMCB after obtaining my Bachelor of Science degree from the US. Being young and inexperienced, I wanted to explore other fields of research before committing to a graduate degree, so I returned to be closer to home.
Tom was a very patient mentor. He worked closely with me, guiding me in design of experiments to interpretation of results. Whenever I don't understand his rationale of doing certain experiment or the results, he will always spend time to explain them to me. This experience has been invaluable as it became the foundation on which I build my scientific interest and career. My time in IMCB was rather short, but the friendship that I made last a long time. I am still in contact with close friends till now.
I am currently a Principal Investigator at National Neuroscience Institute. My lab is close to 3 years old. My lab focuses on the intrinsic and microenvironment factor affecting brain tumor invasion.
Although my time in IMCB was brief, I am grateful for the opportunity to be a part of it.
